Global Change and Terrestrial Ecosystem (GCTE) is a Core Project of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP).GCTE has two objectives: To predict the effects of changes in climate, atmospheric composition, and land use on terrestrial ecosystems, including (i) agriculture, forestry, soils; and (ii) biodiversity.

In the period 1991–1994 the RISC (= Risk Identification of Soil Contamination) project was carried out. The objective of this project was the development of a framework for a knowledge-based system for risk identification of individual contaminated sites.
