The OECD Programme on Sustainable Consumption This study on Policies to Promote Sustainable Consumption: an Overview is one of three policy case studies series of the OECD Environmental Directorate’s 1999 2001 Programme on Sustainable Consumption. The study analyses and presents an overview of policies suggested to promote more sustainable consumption patterns. The report identifies the main stakeholders and discusses the appropriate mixes of economic, regulatory and social instruments, based upon the sector and policy case studies, that could be applied in an integrated approach, combining measures both at the supply as the demand side. This Study has been prepared by Bas de Leeuw (on secondment from the Dutch Ministry for Housing, Spatial Planning and Environment) and was submitted to the Working Party on National Environmental Policy.
