Environmental protection and energy conservation are prime concerns in any human activity. Sustainable urban planning depends not only on the characteristics of buildings: it is directlyrelated to the surrounding environmental conditions. This paper presents a comparative analysis of the microclimates prevailing in the urban open spaces of the city of Thessaloniki, in order to indicate the characteristics that form their local environment.
