1. The Columbia Environmental Research Center :
The Columbia Environmental Research Center provides leadership and scientific information for the U.S. Geological Survey by addressing national and international environmental contaminant issues, and assessing effects of habitat alterations on aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. This includes large-river floodplains, coastal habitats, wetlands, and lakes.
2. Project LIFE - Nature '99 Actions for the protection of the calcareous fens of lake :
The project LIFE - Nature '99, is working out in Trichonis lake area, as a goal has the protection of the calcareous fens of lake. Immediate objective of the project is the restoration of sites to a favorable conservation state and increase public awareness. Long term objective of the project is to secure the protection of the Calcareous Fens within the network of strategically located sites. The Calcareous fens is a priority habitat type in Annex I of the Directive 92/43/EEC. The Calcareous Fens are very unstable habitats thus requiring special protection. Calcareous Fens with Cladium mariscus and Carex sp are usually found at lowland areas of lakes and lagoons. The geographic distribution of the Calcareous Fens is limited to some small fresh water systems to Greece. Although the areas it covers are small these biotopes are of scientific interest since it represents unstable and vulnerable habitats. The proposed project aims at implementing management actions, which are essential for the restoration and conservation of the habitat Calcareous Fens, within the NATURA 2000 site Trichonis Lake.
3. Institute for Space Applications and Remote Sensing (ISARS) :
The activities of the IISR encompass a wide area in Space Research and Applications. Its main objective is to organize and carry out programmes in basic space research, space technology, and applications related to the above fields. Other IISR objectives are : (a) the systematic collection and processing of data derived from observations made either from the earth or space, (b) the performance of autonomous studies in specific subjects of space research and applications, (c) education and (d) rendering of services. The research activities of the Institute relate to the field of Space Research and Applications and focus on the specific areas such as : Solar Wind - Magnetosphere Coupling Solar and Interplanetary Plasma Radiowave Propagation in Ionospheric and Magnetospheric Plasma Satellite Remote Sensing Computer Applications in Space Research
4. Institute of Environmental Research and Sustainable Development :
The IERSD's aim is to promote meteorological, climatological and environmental science. The IERSD deals with the following subjects: Environmental Studies, Meteorology - Climatology, Physics of the Atmospheric Environment, Atmospheric and Water Pollution, Solar and Wind Energy, Climate Change, Resource Management and Sustainable Development, Hydrology. Main Task and Basic Activities: Collecting and Processing of Various Meteorological Data, Research Programmes, Preforming Relevant Studies, Providing Training and other Services to Third Parties.
5. National Center for Marine Research :
Greece's National Centre for Marine Research (N.C.M.R.) is a governmental research institution belonging to the General Secretariat of Research and Technology. It was founded to promote basic research in all fields of the aquatic environment and provides comprehensive and technical support to the public on all aspects of the marine and freshwater environments.
6. Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics :
The aim of the Astronomical Institute is the development of basic and applied research in Astrophysics. The principal task of the Institute is the collection and processing of observational material obtained from facilities on Earth and in space. The Institute also supports the education and the propagation of astronomical knowledge and provides specialized services.
